One of the most famous world wide websites in the 21 century that gets estimated about 10 billion visits monthly is Youtube.com. YouTube is a very famous video-sharing website on which users upload, share, and view videos. The best thing about YouTube is that they don’t only have the language In English they have all the languages known to mankind. How YouTube works in other words to be able to see videos you need a program called Adobe Flash Player. With out it wouldn’t be able to see videos and YouTube wouldn’t have its fame. It wasn’t always a famous website matter of fact it was not to far ago from when its fame became to be. It was first seen on the web in February 2005 and according to the media the founders were these three employees of PayPal. The names of these three employees were Chad Hurley, Steven Chen, and Jawed Kari. According to the media these 3 fellows developed this idea (YouTube) because one night they were at a dinner party in San Francisco and they shot a few videos and wanted to share them to others but they were having difficulty doing that. Because of their intelligent idea YouTube’s fame became what it is today.
There are so many types of videos that can be watched online such as entertainment, sports, comedy, music, and many more. Any video that a person desires to watch is on there and anybody can watch them at any time. As the years go by YouTube updates more and more. For example the recent update that came out is that once you see a video on YouTube the next time you go on it again it gives you videos recommendations based on what videos were playing before. One of the most interesting things about YouTube is that anyone and can make a plain video and post it up on the web. Just like everything in life there are limitations and in this case content is a very cautious viewpoint. Videos that have high content can be very dangerous to the youth because if they get exposed to things such as violence they might change personally and mentally. That’s why for some videos that have high content YouTube asks to verify yourself if you are 18 years or older. Even so people still manage to find their own way to see high content videos and that’s why they tried to ban YouTube from the web. In the year 2006 around the fall there has been many situations with violent videos being exposed on the web and the politicians in the U.K sought violence on YouTube an extreme issue. One video in particular which was considered the most violent on YouTube showed a man being kicked in the face until he lost consciousness. According to the U.K ministers sought those types of videos to be “Fuel random acts of violence”. The U.K politicians believed that the YouTube censors should really take more responsibility in those kinds of clips on the web. At the end it was decided that the government had no reason to take action in that situation. This meaning that censorship till this day remains a problem. Situations like this can clearly be solved by the police. Another video that was posted in the spring time which also depicted upon the problem on violence turned out to be a big crime investigation. 6 teenage girls Florida were accused of beating up a 16-year-old girl and recording the whole thing with the intention of putting it up on YouTube. This incident was actually really major in the media because once the video was released to the police, they caught the 6 victims and their parents were interviewed and the 6 victims were taken to court. The worst part of the attack is people were amateurishly re-enacting the attack for humor and posting it on YouTube. The story became so involved in the media it got some commentators to pin the blame of the incident on YouTube itself even though it was a preposterous way of thinking.
During the election of presidency between John McCain and Barrack Obama YouTube became a very useful technique for the both campaigns. This was the first presidential campaign of the YouTube era. According to Larry Greenemeier Barack Obama’s campaign was making way more success than John McCain’s. The reason why is because Obama unfortunately was first to use the web as a campaign tool. Obama’s site supposedly had more text and had more extensive archive of Obama’s speeches. In fact Obama’s speeches had more words then what McCain used in his speeches. Obama also had twice as many videos posted on his official YouTube channel. Obama used YouTube to his advantage and it gave him way more power than McCain so it gave him more popularity and gave his campaign more potential. The YouTube era made such an impact on society and the campaigns that the candidates had to be careful with every word and action they make because it would be recorded. Whether it was recorded professionally or amateurishly every time the candidates would be in the public they would be recorded and would give an analysis by reporters and political bloggers. The candidates also had to be careful if they are being to repetitive in what they say and do. It was sure to say that for the candidates it was very competitive because of YouTube.
Another great social impact YouTube has done on society is making people into celebrities. On YouTube there are many internet celebrities that have attracted a lot of publicity. The most famous subscribed internet celebrity on YouTube is Ryan Higa. Ryan Higa is a Japanese-American comedian got his fame on YouTube with his comedian acts. Ryan Higa first used to make videos with this friend from Hawaii of them lip synching songs in the year of 2006. Then in the year of 2008 Ryan Higa came out with 2 amazing videos called “How to be Gangster” and “How to be Emo”. The 2 videos got millions of view and the 2 videos were unfortunately removed due to copyright violations. In the month of August 2009 the videos were posted back up. Most of the videos that Ryan Higa posted up on YouTube have had problems due to copyright violations. Even though they had their copyright issues they still managed to get millions of views. According to their popularity chart in the month of November their videos had been viewed over 150 million times. They were ranked 2nd most subscribed channel on the month of May 10, 2009. About a month later Ryan Higa surpassed 2 million subscribers, making it the 1 person to do that in YouTube history. Another artist who became famous on YouTube and is even famous till this day is Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber was first found on YouTube by a man named Scooter Braun who then became his manager. Every time Justin Beiber would perform in singing competition his mom would record it on video and she would post it up on YouTube. It was obvious that his singing got so popular on the web; he got so many views on many of his performances in his videos. Justin Bieber then signed a record label with R&B singer Usher and became a very famous teenage Pop and R&B singer himself.
Every website on the web has its positives and negatives. YouTube unfortunately has its negatives. It has been said on the web that if you type in YouTube.com it takes you to a website that congratulates you and says you have won an accessory. The offer is obviously a scam and all they want to do is just take your money, or if they do send a prize it’ll be something that you not expect. Basically what the scammers are good at is taking your money by making you pays fees. What the scammers usually do is ask for your number and they send you message so you can “claim your prize”. It is very dangerous to sing up for things you’re not accustomed to and most likely they can be a fake. Even till this day if you try to attempt to get on YouTube it can take you to that false advertisement and it has been a problem. The problem with this scam on YouTube is that if young children happen to get into the website and they see the offer they might want to sign up since the website looks legit and it can ruin them.
YouTube has done such a major job and has gotten so much attention on the web that Google decided to make a deal with YouTube. This had made a big change to YouTube and was a great achievement for the owners Chad and Steven. Reason why is because Google is rated most visited website worldwide. Google made a deal with YouTube for 1.65 billion dollars and YouTube obviously did not ignore the tremendous offer. So till this day YouTube is technically owned by Google. Since Google owns YouTube they have doubled the views on Google. According to Msnbc.com “Google is betting that the popular video-sharing site will provide it an increasingly lucrative marketing hub as more viewers migrate from television to the Internet”. It would actually be a next step in evolution of the Internet. Although Google owns the company they left the name as it is “YouTube” and also left all the employees to work there including the finders of YouTube Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.
YouTube has many partnerships on the web such as Universal Music Group, CBS Corp, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group Inc. YouTube main goal is to help video creators make money online. According to YouTube’s biz blog 2009 was their best year yet. Shows and movies on the web have had great success on YouTube. Especially because the videos that are full-length, such as Ghostbusters, Taxi driver, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the Spaghetti Western Trilogy. Another big achievement on YouTube is that the user partners are making over a thousand dollars a month on YouTube. A famous user named Fred has the most views in the entire population of the U.S. Companies on the web such as Demand Media, Machinima and Mondo Media and according to YouTube’s Big Blog “Demand Media, Machinima and Mondo Media have a loyal following on YouTube and have set them apart as the “New Media Powerhouses” of the future through their forward-thinking acquisition and distribution strategy. One the most famous funniest video on YouTube is “David after dentist” that was actually generated over $30K for the up loader. The video actually got fame for the Dr fresh Company; they got the chance to promote the “firefly toothbrush”. Earlier of this year 2010 there have been many outside land festivals in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. One famous day was the WORLD AIDS DAY which was performed by singer Alicia Keys. According to YouTube Biz Blog “the concert racked up a total of 10mm streams, making it the most successful live-streaming event in YouTube history.” French producer and director Luc Besson had a great impact on YouTube. He came out with an amazing film called “Home” which on YouTube went on to generate 7 million views in just 6 weeks. According to YouTube’s Big Blog over 1,000 partners are using YouTube’s copyrighted management technologies, also including every major U.S. network broadcaster, movie studio and record label and 50% of the partners prefer to monetize their content of YouTube which in fact turned out to be one of their biggest challenges. The most impressive thing that as occurred in YouTube was when Josh Raskin got an Award (Daytime Emmy for New Approaches). His reason for such a great achievement was his film called “I met the Walrus”. It was one of the first short films featured in the YouTube Screening Room and was fortunately a great film.
Making popularity on YouTube is not very hard at all. YouTube is basically on the same lines as Facebook or MySpace. In other words YouTube can easily be used as social networking. To get really known on YouTube you first need a good username and can be easily to read and a kind that can get a YouTuber’s attention. It would be a great idea also to create a username that basically represents who you are as a person. The next step would be to create a logo for your username and make designs for your YouTube page so that it stands out. The most important thing is to get colors and designs that represent you. The next step is to interact with other YouTube users so that your username can get known faster. A great idea would also be to comment their pages just to show your respect and doing that will get them to most likely respond back. Next step is to post a really interesting video that has a really good quality, editing, and the video should have a good topic such as humor. Once a person watches a video that catches their attention they are most likely going to share it with friends and family so its best to make one that can grab the viewers attention. Another way to spread the video on the web is by simply tweet or post links of the video on Facebook so that people can be able to watch. They would also help to promote your video by sending it to their other friends. If your luck still hasn’t gotten there yet then the next best thing to do is advertise your YouTube channel. YouTube can actually help support you with your popularity by getting subscribers to support your YouTube channel. Getting towards the last step to making major fame on YouTube is to make sure to not include false copyrighted and distributions restrains such as music videos. Last but not least the final major idea to include in each and every video you upload is to start or/and end with your main logo to let the viewers know that it’s a representation of you. The two most important steps to making fame on YouTube is advertising and share videos with your friends and to make sure they’ll be willing to share videos to their friends.
YouTube has been around since 2004 but nowadays people are so accustomed of it that they feel as if it has been around forever. According to www.lovetoknow.com YouTube is ranked number 10th most visited website out of the 10. That being that Facebook is the number 1 ranked on the chart. What is very unique about YouTube is that it is popular with both adults and teens. So there shouldn’t be any doubt that one day YouTube becomes ranked number 1. YouTube today is already the top social media renovation of the decade. Co-finders Steve and Chad are have no doubt that YouTube will increase and increase. When they had the deal with Google they were just full with pride and excitement. They even made a video of the day they received the news. In the video Steve and Chad thanks the community for contributing to YouTube. An interesting thing they say in the video is that they promise to stay committing to developing the best service and tools and technology so we can enjoy the website even more. They always said in the video that’ll update the website with more innovated features. That saying that as long as YouTube gets updated with all these new tools and innovated features, YouTube will remain on top and maybe one day be considered the most visited website on the web.
