Blog 10: Gattaca response

George J. Anna's statement about the new ideal human 'superior human' being considered the "other" is very creative and is a very open minded ideal way of thinking. Unfortunately none of us, as humans in the world are perfect and that is just how we were created. That being said there is always going to be people considered as the "other". No matter how genetically engineered the human can be they're still human in the inside and that will never change. The 'superior human' does not exist and will not, which technically is an Utopian way of thinking because of the simple fact that every human living on this earth is not perfect. A very controversial issue going on in the world at this moment is abortion. There have been many people who have attempted to make abortion illegal. Even though people have their ways of thinking Utopian there isn't a chance the world will change into one.
In the movie "Gattaca" character Vincent is on to pursue his long life dream of space traveling. In order for him to do that he has to pretend his identity as if he were another man. Vincent in this movie is considered the "other" obviously because he is pretending to be a person he is not due to the fact that his reputation is known for an under class of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. George J. Anna's response can relate to the movie because Vincent was considered the 'superior human' in the movie until he got caught and was revealed of his real identity.
A person in history that was considered the "other" was Ferdinand Demara. Ferdinand was considered the greatest imposter because he pretended to be someone else.In order to join the army he borrowed one of his friends name to do so. Not only that but he also faked suicide to start another new life. With his new name "Robert Linton French" he made it to be a religiously-oriented psychologist. Even though he probably made it successful in life he was definitely still considered in the inside and outside the "other".

Blog 9: The Matrix revised

The matrix is a great movie in many ways. It shows how people can be envious and cruel but most of all ignorance plays a big part in the movie. Even though it is clearly fictional the theme is the most important mainly because it gives us a great lesson to be taught. The moral of the movie is be careful with what you wish for because it can lead you to a different direction in life.

The Matrix is about a guy named "Neo" who is a computer programmer and also hacker and is invited to join the 3rd world by leader of the matrix “Morpheus” by giving him to opportunity to either join the 3rd world or remain in ignorance for the rest of his life. In reality we as humans are always given the chance to choose what we want in life and choose if we want to stick with it for the rest of our life. The right choice may not always be picked at first but most of the time we get the opportunity of a second chance. The most famous scene of the movie is when main character “Neo” is being offered the opportunity to either choose a red pill or the blue pill. The blue pill which will allow him to go back to his regular life and remain in ignorance, and the red pill which gives him the opportunity to join the new world and see for himself how it is. Like every other human person would do he chooses the red pill to see if the other world the “3rd world” is better or not.

In the matrix the machines chose modern capitalism as the ultimate way of controlling the human mind. An issue that can relate to the illusory category is probably the conspiracies that were told about the year 2012. The one famous conspiracy is that there will be a new world order in the year 2012. The movie's critique does go far enough because it gives a real good example of a new life existence. Not exactly but it gives us an idea of a futuristic utopia. The scene in the movie where Cipher imagines the beautiful well-done steak prepared for him to eat shows an example of reality and illusion. The steak he imagined was not actually there but he imagined it and ate the whole steak. What his brain perceived was a well-done steak and that's what he got. In reality the only illusion we ever experience is when we sleep and have dreams. Sometimes when we are dreaming and we don't even know it until you awaken. Same thing as the movie when the people were put into those machines they were in fact dreaming but whatever occurred to them in the dream would occur to them in real life. Such as the scene where Cipher pulls the plug and kill 2 of the characters in the matrix. In the dream the characters die and in reality they die also.

The main plot of the movie deals very much with the main character of the movie. "Neo" the main character chooses between a hard decision to either live in the life he knows as or to learn the truth. Once "Neo" decides to "learn the truth" he starts to train himself in the new world and becomes one of the strongest people in the matrix.
The conflict of the movie is the character "Cipher" which is in the Matrix already but decides he wants to go against it and live in the real world. So he starts to causes major damage in the matrix. The reason of all the chaos is because he is jealous of character "Neo" and he wants revenge. So as revenge he causes major damage and the worst thing he tries to do is attempt to kill "Neo". While everything was happening the leader "Morpheus" is in danger and is slowly dying. So character “Tank” the operator kills Cipher and saves Neo and Trinity. When Neo was finally saved he got the ability to look in the future and realized that there is still hope to save the leader “Morpheus”. Once he did save him was when he realized he is the chosen one.

The character "Oracle" is very important because without her the individuals in the matrix wouldn't have any talent and techniques. The Oracle gives you the ability to build your own obtain your abilities and realize many extraordinary things such as the future.

Blog 8: The concept of the other

A) Give a description of your "other."

The very opposite of me would probably have to be emo. An emo person is basically a person who listens to hardcore rock, dressed in black usually, make-up, depressed all the time, maybe cutting theirselves, and keeps to theirselves, and quiet.

B) Explain what it is about it that makes you feel such opposition to it

The reason i am the total opposite of an emo person is because i am a very friendly, I talk a lot, I love to party and have fun, I like to not cut myself, and i love to dress not full black. Being depressed is the most boring feeling ever and it's a feeling i choose not to express. Im one of those type of people that say we only live once so we got to enjoy it. Being emo is just the totally oppostie way of thinking.

C) Discuss what has happened or would happen in situations where you have to interact with someone who belongs to "the other" as you define it. You should make sure that you do not write something offensive to members of that group, but at the same time if you keep good manners you should express your ideas openly.

I actually never had an emo friend and not planning to have one because there would'nt be any equal characteristics. I wouldn't know what to talk about with an emo person. If i were to ever meet a emo person i would probably try my best to avoid him/her.

Discuss a situation when you have been seen as the other--when your sex, race, habits, tastes etc. have clearly made somebody react negatively toward you and turn you into "the other" for them. Discuss the experience in detail and what you thought about the person as well as about yourself after this experience.

There was this one time i was with a friend who knew a friend, who knew a friend, who knew a friend that was emo and we were all together one day and went out to hang but he was the only one that was left out. So since I'm a really friendly person i went up to the kid and started talking to him. Every conversation i brought up i guess didn't relate to him and instantly when i started to realize that I started bringing up old times when i used to have low self-esteem and just times where I felt like i didnt want to live anymore. Some stories were real some were fake but he was interested. So the kid and I became friends not good friends just got along and I never again spoke to him because i felt it would be awkward. So either way if the person is the opposite of me i try the best as i can to become friends with him/her.

Blog 6: Hero

The movie Hero was a great movie but it was sad to see the person who should of got fame not get the fame. The best part of the movie was probably the end when the reporter was talking individually to Bernie and what was interesting to me was when Bernie admitted that he saved her and the whole incident with Bubber was a lie. The media never payed attention to Bernie though because he wasn't much of a heroic character he was sort of the antagonist of the movie but in a way he was the hero. The gentlemen Bubber actually played a really down to earth character which caught my attention most. In my opinion he should of definitely took all the credit for something he did and that was to be a hero. The only reason why the media loved Bubber was because he played the character well as in he made pretend he was the actual hero and that was the only thing that caught the media's attention and right away jumped into conclusions that he is a very good guy better yet a ''savior''

Blog 4: Reflection

1.What have you learned about writing academic texts so far? Anything from ideas of audience to invention techniques to thesis and topic sentences can be discussed here. Do not simply repeat whatever notes you took in class--the point is for your thoughts on what we did in class: Did these concepts connect with things you already knew and how did you make these connections? If something was unfamiliar, how did you approach it? What is still puzzling to you about these writing concepts? What are you not sure of regarding them?So far I learned to compare stories to others. In the recent essay and the essay before dealt with comparing. For example I had to compare a situation from U.S history to the text “Allegory of the cave”. Scenarios like this in high school I would have issues trying to write a whole essay on a topic like this. Sometimes I would just give up on myself and not even bother to write the essay. But what helped me a little bit in this situation is read other peoples essay and sort of get an idea of how they do theirs and then it would get easier for me to do mine.

2) What did you think of the interaction with ENA 099? Does such interaction make blogging more meaningful for you or not? How was writing to someone not in class different from making comments on classmates' blogs? Did trying to critique someone else's summary make you more confident that you know the criteria for a good summary?

In my opinion blogging does not interest me at all so making blogs with ENA 099 doesn’t really make a change. Writing blogs to other classmates doesn’t really make a difference to me. Trying to critique someone else’s summary does not make it more confident for me.

3) Area of reflection of your choice: What else would you like to share with all of us?
What I would like to share with the class is that I am really looking forward to learning more

Blog 3: The Matrix Analysis

The matrix does in fact have a limitation in the movie of male/female. There is only 2 females and the rest are gentlemen. The movie and the "Allegory of the cave" kind of base on the same subject. The illusion of the world they live upon. In the movie "The Matrix" there are 2 kind of worlds, one that is supposively a dreamworld utopia and the other world which is real life which in the movie is considered the opposite of utopia.

The Matrix is basically about a guy named "Neo" who is a computer hacker and people from the 3rd world which is the matrix find him and want to bring him into their world. Neo starts having these illusions in the beginning of him being followed by mobsters and in the illusions everything would go wrong. Then one day he is taken to the leader of the matrix which is "Morpheus". Morpheus plays a really important character in the story because he was the one who brought up the matrix. So Morpheus reveals to "Neo" the 3rd world and has a choice to either live in ignorance and stay in the real world or go and start a new life in the utopian world. This relates to the "Allegory in the cave" in many ways because of the ignorance and the decision to either live in ignorance or not. The character "Oracle" is very important because without her the individuals in the matrix wouldn't have any talent and techniques. The Oracle gives you the ability to build your own obtain your ablities and realize many extraordinary things in the matrix.

In the matrix the machines chose modern capitalism as the ultimate way of controlling the human mind.
